We are seeking a Chief Project Manager to join our team on the east coast.



This position can be located in our New York, NY, Florham Park, NJ, Braintree, MA or Bridgeport, CT office.

Role Summary

The Chief Project Manager is a major Seller-Doer for the Company, helping to identify, secure, and effectively deliver projects across the full company service areas while building key client and teaming partner relationships and staff capabilities. Reporting to the regional Practice Lead, the Chief Project Manager has responsibilities encompassing project management, marine engineering, business development, and staff management functions that collectively have immediate and high impact on the growth of the Company.



Key Responsibilities:

Project Management
•Manages assigned projects and project portfolios;
•Develops and implements project management best practices;
•Delivers accurate forecasting and manages resource allocation, scheduling, and budgeting for assigned project(s);
•Develops and implements project delivery plans;
•Provides leadership and coordination in the area of distributed engineering between the offices within the COWI organization as required for project delivery;
•Assists in assignment and management of resources and key staff to projects;
•Leads various strategic initiatives as assigned by the Practice Lead; and
•Contributes and provides leadership to the development and improvement of company best practices in Engineering, Quality Management, Project Management, Commercial and Risk Management and Safety practices.



Engineering Specialist
•In collaboration with the discipline leads and COWI Marine Technical Director(s), ensures state of the art technical knowledge within own field of expertise;
•Actively contributes to projects by performing tasks requiring a broad and/or deep knowledge in the field of marine engineering;
•Carries out project engineering duties in accordance with the Company Quality Management System including but not limited to establishing appropriate design criteria and methodologies, performing engineering calculations, analysis and design, design checking and quality assurance, engineering inspections, preparing design memorandums and reports, specifications, and cost estimates;
•Ensures conformance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements;
•Performs and reviews engineering calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and related contract documents; and
•Performs construction oversight and administration duties on assigned projects.



Business Development
•Provides leadership in business development and marketing activities for the Company including identifying, tracking, positioning, and pursuing project opportunities;
•Represents the Company in external settings including technical committees, conferences, seminars, professional bodies and business groups;
•Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with specified key clients;
•Leads proposal efforts for procurement of engineering services;
•Develops and maintains relationships with specified key clients;
•Participates in business development opportunities as assigned; and
•Partners with clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to client requirements.



Staff and Office Management
•Serves as a deputy to regional Practice Lead as directed;
•Assists with technical discipline talent acquisition, integration, development, mentoring, and retention of staff within geographic region; and
•Participates in periodic business development and strategy meetings as requested and contributes to the development and achievement of the COWI Group’s strategic objectives.



Qualifications and Skills Required
•M.Sc. or higher in Engineering;
•Minimum 10-15 years' experience in engineering, project management and business development with an emphasis on design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of pier and waterfront structures;
•Experience and reputation with local clients such as various government organizations, local municipalities, partner AE firms, and Design-Build partners;
•Excellent written and oral communication skills;
•Proven ability to prepare proposals and review agreement terms;
•Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment;
•Strong organizational and time management skills;
•Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills;
•Ability to work with local as well as remotely located staff;
•Active participation in local, national and/or international professional societies; and
•Ability and willingness to travel predominantly in North America or other geographies as project assignments require.
