DESCRIPTION

UC Berkeley research center, The Blum Center, in the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Research Engineer in Business, Engineering or in a closely related field at the time of application. The candidate will perform work under Professor Alice Agogino.

Appointment Length:
This is a part-time, one-year position at 50% time and is renewable depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

Responsibilities:
The primary duties of this position are to coalesce, collaborate, and originate research for the Blum Center as directed by the Faculty Director, Education Director, and Executive Director. This includes original research such as case studies profiling novel interdisciplinary research endeavors, student or faculty led entrepreneurship and innovation, and insights from workshops/seminars hosted by or funded by the Blum Center. In particular, the researcher will generate knowledge and case studies about integrated InFEWS content and research including efforts aimed at adaptability from lab/local to global field sites and scale. This may also include research centering on, but not limited to, student engagement and outcomes around the pursuit of socially motivated innovations, multidisciplinary applied research efforts at the nexus of food, energy and water, and how investing in programs such as OnRamp and Big Ideas has generated impact. In addition, it will be important for this person to be able to communicate this research to the public and potential partners.

Basic Qualifications:
• Must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Business, Engineering or in a closely related field at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications (by start date):
• Experience in fields such as Entrepreneurship, Development Engineering, Impact Design, Technology Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, or Technology Firm Leadership.
• Experience in research, analysis and publication in the context of multidisciplinary innovations for developing economies, entrepreneurship, social innovation, social startups and social finance.
• Ability to conduct independent research on multidisciplinary efforts, demonstrated writing and communication skills.

Salary:
The full-time annual salary will be $108,300.
