JOB SUMMARY:

With limited supervision, designs and develops high precision electro-mechanical products for use in the dental market, to include new products as well as product line extensions; performs related work and other duties as required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Leads multifunctional teams in the rapid development, design transfer and launch of complex products such as new technology platforms/next generation products or the development of line extensions.
Ensures effective communication within the team and between the team and the rest of the organization.
Develops and actively manages the time line using project management techniques and ensures that there is clarity and focus on the critical path and that appropriate contingency plans are in place should they become necessary.
Leads cross-functional technical teams in the development of new products and ensures that design inputs are clearly defined and met and that design control is documented in accordance with all Company and regulatory requirements.
Defines protocols and conducts the necessary testing required to validate the safety and effectiveness of the design(s).
Approves documentation, specifications and drawings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, supplemented by 7-10 years of progressively responsible and applicable engineering experience in a product development environment, 5 years of which were in a medical device development environment.
Must also have demonstrated progressively responsible successful project management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering technologies.
Thorough knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Knowledge of FDA, the European Medical Device Directive & ISO 13485 requirements and regulations as they apply to this position.
Working knowledge of engineering materials, fabrication processes and electro-mechanical devices.
Ability to successfully navigate a structured new product development process.
Ability to perform linear and non-linear finite element analysis.
