Mechanical Engineer - Data Center - Southbury, Connecticut

Data Center Mechanical Engineering position in the Engineering & Construction Services organization in the Real Estate and Site Operations (RESO) Division supporting major facilities operations and design and construction projects for all IBM divisions and subsidiaries. You will be provide mechanical engineering support on large scale mechanical infrastructure systems that support IBM’s mission critical data centers, help desks, and e-business sites at both new and existing locations worldwide. You will also provide support to internal business units by performing assessments of the mechanical infrastructure as customer facilities. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as a part of a matrix organization are essential to ensure successful project execution and customer support.

Responsibilities include working with our internal customers and the project team to perform mechanical engineering analysis, establish project design criteria, and generate estimating assumptions on multiple, simultaneous projects. Projects will include the design and construction of new buildings and alterations/expansions of existing buildings in both existing and new locations worldwide.

You will develop detailed project design documents through the direction of design consultants and support construction and commissioning efforts to ensure successful projects from inception to completion.

Interface with both customer and RESO management, other RESO organizations, consultants, construction firms and government agencies on a routine basis.

Work with the operations teams at individual sites to ensure uninterrupted service and perform root cause analysis and develop action plans as required.

Requirements

Possess a Bachelor of Science degree or a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in a mission critical environment supporting facilities mechanical infrastructure.

Experienced in the design, operation, and commissioning of chillers, cooling towers air handling units, generators, boilers, building management systems, and life safety systems.

Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently.

Willingness to travel.
