About the Opportunity
The Elyria Site (Lear Romec Brand) offers the most reliable positive displacement pumps in the industry industry consisting of vane, gerotor, and spur gear configurations. Products include lube and scavenge pumps that are ETOPS rated; high contamination resistance gerotor pumps for oil applications; high pressure spur gear pumps; centrifugal fuel pumps and centrifugal coolant pumps. Our pumps are used on many General Aviation, business jet, commercial transport, and military aircraft applications.

We need a talented individual in our Fluid Management Group at our Elyria, OH facility to fill the role of Manager Engineering, Sustaining. In this position, you will be accountable for the overall technical direction and success of Sustaining and R&O engineering investigations, corrective actions and process / product improvements. Develop, maintain and manage goals and metrics needed to achieve a proactive understanding of product reliability, quality and performance, initiating required investigations and product improvement programs necessary. Facilitate achievement of overall objectives through effective leadership of Sustaining Engineering, Product Support Engineering, and cross-functional team personnel. Effectively utilize problem solving and other Op Ex tools required to facilitate and document group investigations and initiatives. Coordinate with the design engineering group on developed lessons learned and provide input to new product development activities. Provide / facilitate effective communication to customers and suppliers. Define and maintain control of department and project costs and schedules.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership Management Responsibilities
· Provide effective leadership and management for direct and/or ‘dotted line’ reports. Work in conjunction with first line manager where dotted line reporting is established.
· Maintain technical liai­son with customers, suppliers, contractors and other functional groups through effective teamwork and communication.
· Define, maintain and manage the metrics necessary to proactively identify and prioritize group initiatives and activities.
· Initiate investigations and product improvement programs necessary to resolve issues or improved product reliability, performance, quality, first time yield, manufacturability, maintenance, etc.
· Facilitate the effective utilization of problem solving and Op Ex tools.
· Support the development and approval of project cost estimates and schedules. Ensure teams and personnel meet program requirements through mentoring and appropriate staffing.
· Ensure accurate program accounting is achieved through effective utilization of project records and data management.
· Define and manage engineering processes, leading process definition and improvement efforts. Ensure all group engineering activities adhere to defined processes and principles.
· Ensure compliance with all company, department and regulatory procedures and requirements, including Export Compliance and ITAR.
· Ensure required engineering capabilities and skill-sets are available and fulfill department needs.
· Define, manage, communicate and/or implement engineering group personnel development plans and performance appraisals.
· Assist in the preparation and management of fiscal year operating budgets and company metrics.
· Be an active participant in FRACAS meetings.
· Support weekly/monthly reliability reports for LTA and Product Support Agreement compliance.



Engineering Responsibilities
· Assume complete technical engineering leadership for all group assignments and work in unison with representatives of Operations, Product Support/Field Service, Business and Engineering to plan and effectively exe­cute pro­grams.
· Provide engineering oversight and approval for investigations, product improvements, MRB activity, etc, ensuring that all activities are complete, accurate, and meet requirements. Responsibilities include the following categories:
Performance (mechanical, electromechanical) Materials Analysis
Safety Weight Reliability
Manufacturability Cost
· Review and approve technical documentation necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements, including procedures, reports, correspondence, product draw­ings, drawing release packages, drawing revisions and other design documentation.
· Support the Material Review Board (MRB) in the assessment and disposition of non-conforming hardware and material.
· Oversee the material analysis lab and related inspections
· Provide support to Design Engineering, ensuring lessons learned are captured and fed back into related design processes.
· Provide input into new development design proposals and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge:
· The fundamental engineering concepts presented below are required as related to product design, analysis and disposition, including the ability to effectively oversee, coach and/or mentor supporting engineers and assigned personnel:
Fluid Dynamics Statics & Dynamics Design of Mechanical Components
Vibration Stress and Strain Platings, Coatings, & Heat Treating
Metallurgy Strength of Materials Drawing Layout / Stack-ups



Education/Certification: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering



Experience: 10+ years of related experience
Proven design project leadership ability, including the demonstrated ability to form and lead cross functional teams.



Eligibility Requirement: Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.
