Field Service Engineer I

Summary

The Field Service Engineer I position is the entry-level engineering assignment within the Service Engineering department. Primary responsibilities include; serviceability/reliability reviews, service documentation development, high-level troubleshooting/technical support on a narrow product focus, and initial product training to technical support personnel and service trainers. Requirements include Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field, exceptional communication skills and practical experience with the service and repair of electronic and/or electromechanical equipment.

Essential Job Functions

1.Participate in the new product development process assuring that all Service requirements are completed prior to product release. Requirements include: Design reviews for serviceability/reliability, service plan generation, service documentation and procedure development, defining service parts, outlining service training and tracking equipment performance.

2.Acts as an escalation point for resolution of a variety of technical issues. Provides technical and product support to technical support personnel, field service associates, sales associates and customers.

3.Provide initial product training to technical support personnel, field associates and trainers.

4.Field travel to provide on site technical support, field test support, field training and R&D project support. International travel required

5.Create, review and update technical documentation.

6.Interface with Regulatory and Quality Control to define and assist in the implementation of product upgrades, enhancements and service procedures.

7.Develop service kits and qualify service replacement parts.

8.Troubleshoot and analyze technical problems. Resolve immediate issues and implement changes to prevent future problems

9.Provide qualification/testing documentation and support for design modifications

Job Requirements
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

General office environment. Sedentary work - light lifting and carrying, occasional bending, stooping, twisting, walking, standing, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling. Requires seeing and the ability to distinguish shape, size, distance, motion and depth. Requires hearing and the ability to speak and communicate effectively with others. May include the use of assistive devices.

Education/License Requirement

1.Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related field

Experience/Requirements

1. Practical experience in the service and repair of both electronic and electromechanical equipment. One (2) years required

2.Computer skills: proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

3.Excellent communication and public relations skills

4.Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and interpret a variety of technical data and documents

Supervisory Responsibilities

Assist with coordinating functions and activities of logistic staff on engineering projects

Nature of Problem Solving

Field Service Engineer must be capable of solving technical problems on STERIS products, resolve customer relation issues resulting from equipment problems, and work with vendors and manufacturing to resolve parts problems and parts obsolescence issues

The Field Service Engineer I is empowered to make decisions on product performance, quality and regulatory issues

Field Service Engineers also interface with Quality and Regulatory to help ensure proper procedures are developed for department functions and meeting appropriate safety and reliability standards.
